CARLISLE CONFIRMS CITY CENTRE START

The Cumberland Sporting Car Club, organisers of the Pirelli International Rally are delighted with the news that agreement has been reached with Carlisle City Council to stage the event start in Carlisle City Centre where the start ramp will be situated, right in the heart of the historic Border city with the medieval Town Hall and the statue commemorating Bonnie Prince Charlie’s occupation of the city providing a picturesque backdrop as the cars depart the start line.
The rallies return to Carlisle, it was last based in Cumbria in 2000, will see a return of the razzmatazz and glamour associated with an International event and the site, situated right in the heart of the cities main shopping area should guarantee a bumper crowd of spectators to watch the action.
Organisers of the Pirelli International Rally are hoping to include a rally show and various other attractions in the proceedings to raise the profile of the rally and the Kwik Fit/ Pirelli British Rally Championship, the Cumbrian event being the second round.
A spokesman for the organisers commented, “Despite the recent horrendous floods, Carlisle is still very much a vibrant and bustling place and we look forward to renewing our association with the City Council and bringing top class motorsport back to the region.
