There was an unexpected sight for the hordes of Saturday shoppers streaming in to Carlisle City Centre this morning when they found an Eddie Stobart liveried Ford Focus WRC parked slap bang in the middle of the town’s pedestrian precinct The car wasn’t about to blast off however for it was, of course, the well known Pirelli simulator, there to publicise the return to the Border city of the Pirelli International Rally and it wasn’t long before a queue of eager youngsters, and quite a number of Mums and Dads were lining up for an opportunity to be Colin McRae for a few minutes.
While the more adventurous wrestled there way through the simulated stage, the Pirelli Organising team were kept busy handing out leaflets and answering numerous questions about the event, the second round of the Kwik Fit/ Pirelli British Rally Championship which is based in the city over the weekend of 20/21st. May, not least about the P-Zero Spectator Stage at Crosby on Eden which is generating a considerable amount of interest amongst the rally mad Cumbrian populace.
There was an added bonus to the days flag flying exercise for the proceeds from the simulators “Customers” were donated to the local Air Ambulance and the Eden Valley Hospice who should each be receiving a healthy sum shortly.
