Four Wheel Drive To The Fore In Kielder
Bob Little 2011World Rally cars dominate the entry list for Saturday's Pirelli Tour of Cumbria Rally,
With the Four wheel drive exponents led off by Stephen Petch/ Michael Wilkinson in their well known Hyundai Accent WRC, which went well on the Border Counties until retiring with electrical problems, they will be followed by the Ford Focus WRC of Dan O'Brien/ Andy Marchbank which took an excellent 3rd place on the Sunseeker National event.
Next up in another Ford Focus is the evergreen Peter Stephenson, who seems to have been around for years, although he is still highly competitive as his 2nd place on the recent Riponian Stages proved. Michael Glendinning/ Jane Nichol are next away in the ex TEG Sport Subaru Impreza, Michael will be keen to recover from the embarrassment of sliding off on the Snowman, the excursion made more painful when several following competitors landed on top of his stricken car.
There are more WRC cars out, with Subaru Imprezas in the hands of Martin Cairns/ Peter Ward and Jon Burn/ Alan Stark, Ian Baumgart/ Dave Robson are also Subaru mounted while variety on the entry list is provided by Martin Hawkswell/ Nick Welsh (Ford Escort RS), Stuart Egglestone/ Helen Hall ( Vauxhall Astra), Clive Alcock/ Steven Brown (Talbot Sunbeam) and Scott Grant/ Stewart Hurst (Mitsubishi Evo 8).
The Pirelli Tour of Cumbria will start from Carlisle Racecourse, running behind the main Pirelli International Rally, and will take in 8 stages, all in the Kielder Forest complex, finishing back at the Racecourse at 18:00.
