The Big Boys Are Back

Photo By Ian Hardy 2010There will be a big "Welcome Back" for the impressive Land Rover crews who make a popular return to Kielder Forest after a year's absence, the Pirelli Land Rover Rally featuring as a support event and bringing the big, bulky, but always driven flat out, machinery back to the fast, undulating forest racks.

The Discovery of Andrew Glover will be up against a whole "Battalion" of Wolfs from the Armed Forces rally Team, whose in house championship is currently led by Tom Aldridge and Mark Brown, and the action is sure to be fast , furious and quite spectacular as these 2½ tonne monsters are hurled through the rallies stages with great gusto, much to the delight of the rallies numerous spectators.

There is always great competition amongst the military men, as can be expected, the inter-regimental rivalry is fierce and the drivers will be showing just as much total commitment as those in more conventional rally cars. Although they run at the back of the field, the Land Rovers stage times demonstrate that they are by no means the slowest runners in the field and they often match , or indeed beat, the times of some of the runners in the main event. They are certainly worth waiting for and there will unquestionably be a large number of spectators staying on to give them a cheer and salute their commitment.

The Pirelli Land Rover Rally starts from Carlisle City Centre and features two stages in Kershope Forest on the evening of Friday 27th April. Restarting the following day, they will cover a further 8 stages in the Kielder Forest complex before crossing the finishing line at Carlisle Racecourse with the first car expected back at 17:17
