Rally Rides Help Community Coffers
Image from 2011 RallyThe little village of Newcastleton, tucked away on the border of England and Scotland comes alive every year when the Pirelli International Rally arrives in town and the village square is filled to capacity with brightly coloured rally cars, all ready for a high speed dash through the nearby Kershope Forest complex.
Kershope also hosts the events "Shakedown" which gives competitors the chance to try out their cars and make any last minute adjustments prior to starting the actual event. As a gesture to the village for it's help and co-operation , the rally organisers offered the opportunity for two local folk to have a ride with one of the countries top drivers during the shakedown.
This created enormous interest in Newcastleton and a raffle was organised with the rides as the star prizes and the proceeds going towards the local community funds. The lucky winners who will enjoy the unique experience of sitting in a state of the art rally car are William Beatty and Robert Leishman, both are ardent rally fans and are looking forward to their prize rides with eager anticipation.
The Pirelli International rally visits Newcastleton on the evening of Friday 27th. April with the competing cars arriving in the village square from 20:29. There are two special stages nearby in Kershope Forest , first car due 20:03, spectator parking will be available and will be clearly signposted
