FORD
FOCUS ON PIRELLI
A third major
motor manufacturer will be supporting the Gateshead based
Pirelli International Rally with the news that the
Ford Ka Championship will be coming to Tyneside, the third round
of the popular one-make series running as a support event behind
the main event while still sharing the high profile podium start
and finish celebrations and performing in front of the large crowds
expected to flock to the two town centre “Spectator Stages”.
The popular
Ford Ka series is very much aimed at young, up and coming drivers
and, as all the cars are identical, competition is fierce amongst
the 30 registered drivers, particularly as the end of season prize
for the winner is a factory supplied car to drive in the 2004
British Rally Championship.
The opening round, run in atrocious conditions in the Lake District,
was won by Oxfordshire crew Jannie Wigmore and Robbie Durant from
Ulstermen Daniel Crossen and Andrew Bushe.
A spokesman
for the Pirelli International Rally
commented, “We look forward tremendously to welcoming the
Ford Ka series to Gateshead , it is going to be a tremendous experience
for these young drivers to compete in such a high profile event
and, who knows, we might be seeing a future champion amongst them”.
The Pirelli
International Rally takes place over the weekend
of 25th./26th. April and is also a round of the Pirelli British
Rally Championship, the Peugeot 206 Super Cup and the Castrol
Polo Challenge. For further event information please contact the
event Media Manager on the numbers at the top of this page.
