PIRELLI
‘S DOUBLE HEADER FOR PEUGEOTS
Current World
Champions, and Pirelli British Rally Championship Manufacturers
title holders, Peugeot will be returning to the North East in
April when the young guns contesting the Peugeot 206 Super Cup
will feature in an action packed weekend , cramming two rounds
into just over 24 hours of high speed motoring.
Running in
conjunction with the Pirelli International Rally, the second round
of the Pirelli British Rally Championship, the 206 Super Cup contestants
will compete in two National B events which not only gives them
two points scoring chances, but also the opportunity for those
requiring licence upgrades to acquire the requisite signatures.
Kicking off
a “Weekend of Two Halves”, to borrow a footballing
phrase, will be the Pirelli National 206 Rally, run on the evening
of April 25th, this will feature a high profile “Razzmatazz”
start from Gateshead’s Baltic Square and the opportunity
for the Peugeot pilots to perform in front of a large crowd on
the two town centre “Spectator Specials” before moving
on to Kielder Forest for a further three stages.
The second
event, the Pirelli Gateshead 206 Rally, will effectively follow
the second round of the Pirelli International Rally and will feature
some 65 miles of stages, all located in the giant “Killer
Kielder” forest complex. Crews who retire on the first event
will be allowed to start day two, providing they successfully
pass scrutineering.
With some
£10,000 prize money on each round, and a factory drive for
the end of season winner, the Peugeot 206 Super Cup offers the
most sought after prizes in British Rallying and Gateshead is
bound to see some fierce competition from motorsports emerging
young talent, all hungry for success.
