HEATS UP UNDER THE SUN
With only
three stages to go on the Pirelli International, the opening round
of the British Rally Championship, the competition is becoming
intense.
Local driver
Guy Wilks from Darlington (Ford Puma) and 2002 winner Manxman
Mark Higgins (Renault Clio) are driving the doors of their Super1600
category cars to keep the Impreza World Rally Car of 1999 rally
winner Tapio Laukkanen (Finland) at bay in third place.
Current British
Rally Champion Jonny Milner’s from Beverly in Yorkshire
(WRC Toyota Corolla) has picked up the pace as well to claim fourth
on the Northumberland Kielder Forest stages that are reported
to be in superb condition.
Welsh Wizard
Gwyndaf Evans is also battling hard to hold on to fifth in the
MG ZR (1600cc) and Kris Meek has joined the top ten in his Opel
Corsa at 6th.
Reigning British Touring Car Champion, James Thompson
from York, though late arriving for the start by helicopter from
tyre testing at Thurxton (Hampshire), has pushed his Mitsubishi
EV6 to the limit and now claims 10th o/a.
