Keilder Challenge for Super Swifts |
After much doubt about it’s future, the Swift Sport Cup is back on track and competitors will be coming to Carlisle for the series second round, The Pirelli International Rally, which offers crews the daunting task of days of high speed motoring in the famous “Killer” Kielder Forest. Following the Suzuki Motor Corporation’s worldwide suspension of motorsport in the face of the current economic recession it looked like the Swift Sport Cup would become yet another victim but an incredible amount of hard work by the organisers of the MSA British Rally Championship has resulted in a fabulous deal being put together to offer Swift Cup entrants a healthy prize fund on every round with the prospect of the winning crew receiving a free drive on Novembers Rally of Scotland, a round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The series has attracted Seven registered drivers already, the up and coming British entrants being joined by Australian lady, Molly Taylor, who will be sharing a car with Carlisle based Jemma Bellingham. A spokesman for the Pirelli International Rally organisers said, “ It’s really great that the Swift Sport Cup is continuing for 2009, it is a super series for up and coming drivers and gives them the advantage of competing in the British Rally Championship at reasonable cost. We look forward to welcoming all the Swift Sport competitors to Carlisle and are sure they will enjoy the challenge of the Kielder stages”. |
