Mark Higgins continued his remarkable resurgence as the second day of the Pirelli International Rally kicked off with the 8 mile Bower stage and Higgins, who last night turned a one and a half minute deficit into a 20 second overnight lead to stamp his authority on the event, Higgins was quickest from Jonny Milner, now feeling a lot better after a bout of food poisoning, Austin McHale and Paul Bird with all the crews grateful to be back in daylight following the runs last night in total darkness which proved to be problematic for many drivers.
There was much activity in the service area as drivers made numerous adjustments and repairs, Tapio Laukannen changed the diff mapping on his Subaru, Stephen Petch changed the turbo on his car and then dashed off, 20 miles up the road he and his co-driver discovered they had forgotten their helmets!! Andrew Leece changed a bottom arm on his Renault Clio and John Lloyd (Subaru) was another driver to need a replacement turbo.
With Mark Higgins setting the pace, his brother David also dominated in the Production Cup category, his Mitsubishi swapping times with Tapio Laukannen while Robbie Dale was the best of the Formula Two runners in his Renault Clio Ragnotti
