Jonny Milner/Nicky Beech fought back after their disaster on Wether Lair, fifth fastest on the second run through Highfield but, obviously, still way down the leader board and out of the Championship points. Alistair Ginley halted David Higgins seemingly unstoppable run of fastest stage times although less than a second covered Ginley, Higgins and Paul Bird. Barry Johnson was fourth fastest despite his tyres going off, then Milner, back in the groove and Steve Perez who was wrried by a persistent vibration.
The ongoing battle in Super 1600 got even tighter as Barry Clark closed to just 8 seconds behind Broccoli with Gareth Jones, Simon Hughes and Aki Teiskonen locked in a three way battle some 20 seconds in arrears of the leading duo. Sebastion Ling kept the lead in the Production class but was headed in Highfield by both Ryan Champion and Neil Buckley.
Mathew Wilson found the 11 miles of Highfield hard work when the Focus' power steering failed, Ryan Champion had a few hair raising moments with sticky brakes, Ling also blamed brake problems for his steadier run. Simon Redhead backed off when the co-driver lost the notes halfway through the stage while Mark I'Anson had a fraught time, driving the stage on the ignition key when the throttle stuck.
This stage caught out Johnie Wigmore who slid off on a right hander and lost a wheel, it took 10 minutes to replace it and he was passed by Jennie Lee Hermasson on the way out of the stage. Olly Marshall was another driver in trouble, stopping to change a puncture costing the Clio driver some six minutes. Gear problems slowed Steven Petch when he lost 3 rd and 4 th and James Gloster suffered a similar problem, stoping to repair the linkage when he was left with just one usable gear!!
Tom Metcalfe dropped out of Stilo Cup contention when he rolled early in the stage, losing 10 minutes and leaving a previously pristine car looking decidedly second hand! Jean Roca continued to lead from Wilie Bonniwell and Chris Davies.
